Preface

Ines Hock has long been devoted to the world of color. She is fascinated by the variety and richness of nuances of color, the individual perceptibility of which varies according to hue and density, light incidence or surface structure, and also according to the mood of the observer. Over the years, she has developed her intensive studies of the pictorial possibilities of color in a variety of techniques, including pencil, colored pencil, gouache, watercolor, oil paint, and acrylic paint on paper and canvas. In the changing light of day, the colors develop different effects, influence each other, interact with each other, cast colorful shadows on the wall and flood the room. Over time, Ines Hock has freed the materiality of color from the two-dimensional surface of the classical picture and expanded the FARBKONTINUUM into three-dimensional space by hanging colors of varying density on transparencies as installations or fixing them to glass surfaces. The translucent light fills the surrounding space and expands it into a visual experience space through which the viewer wanders, becoming part of it. In the flow of space and time, with changing positions and perspectives, the perception and effect of the colors and the space experienced change and lead to ever new ways of seeing and moods.

In their texts, Dr. Gabriele Uelsberg and Prof. Dr. Johannes Meinhardt sensitively convey the extraordinary artistic approach.

The exhibition series in Linz, Beckum and Siegburg primarily shows this poetic way of dealing with color and space. Paintings and Drawings
